Like many people, I often find myself grappling with the question of purpose. Am I doing work that truly matters? Am I living the life I want to live? It’s an ongoing internal dialogue that often feels overwhelming. That’s why, when I stumbled upon a TED Talk titled “How to Find Your Life’s Purpose in 5 Minutes,” I was instantly intrigued. Five minutes to figure out your life’s purpose? How could I not click?
The talk, given by Adam Leipzig, challenges us to answer five simple questions. While they may seem deceptively basic at first, they’re designed to cut through the noise and get to the heart of what truly drives us. As someone who is always seeking clarity and focus, I gave it a shot—and here’s what I discovered about myself:
1. Who are you?
I’m Drew.
2. What do you do?
I help people establish and grow their digital presence.
3. Who do you do it for?
People who dream of owning their own businesses, organizations striving to amplify their impact, and businesses looking to elevate their digital footprint.
4. What do those people want or need?
They want to turn their passions and goals into a strong digital presence that brings them closer to their dreams.
5. How do they change as a result?
They become more motivated, informed, and prepared to make their dreams a reality.
When I took a step back and looked at my answers, I realized something powerful: My purpose is deeply tied to the work I do every day. I demystify the digital world, motivate and coach entrepreneurs, and help them navigate the digital landscape to achieve their goals. It’s fulfilling to know that my work doesn’t just solve problems—it also transforms lives.
This exercise reminded me that finding purpose doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process. Sometimes, it’s about reflecting on the impact you’re already making and seeing how it aligns with your values and strengths. It’s about clarity, not reinvention.
If you’re feeling lost or stuck, I encourage you to try this exercise yourself. It’s simple, but it just might shift your perspective—and who knows, you might uncover your purpose in less time than it takes to finish your morning coffee.
What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the TED Talk and what you discover about yourself. Let’s start a conversation about purpose—because we’re all in this together.
